HCB School Celebrates World Environment Day with Cultural and Educational Activities

On June 5th, 2025, the Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) School, located in the village of Songo, proudly joined the global celebration of World Environment Day. The event brought together education, environmental awareness, and community participation, highlighting the importance of sustainability in today's world.

The event began at 1:30 p.m. on the school’s multipurpose field, with an opening speech by Mr. Raise Dominic, followed by remarks from Engineer José Rodrigues Matola, head of the Environmental Department at HCB. The ceremony was enriched by the presence of various representatives from the HCB Company, particularly those involved in environmental protection initiatives.

The celebration also welcomed members of the school community from across Songo, including students, teachers, school directors, and support staff, all actively engaged in the day’s program.

A wide range of cultural and educational activities took place throughout the afternoon, including:

A recycled materials exhibition, demonstrating how waste can be creatively reused;

A reflective talk on environmental recovery and preservation;

Thematic parades and the symbolic planting of a potted plant, representing commitment to a greener future;

Performances, creative demonstrations, and environmental project presentations, culminating in lively dance showcases.
