On 1st June 2025, the Hidroeléctrica of Cahora Bassa School, located in the village of Songo, in the Cahora Bassa District, Tete Province, celebrated World Children's Day in a colourful and joyful event held at the renowned HCB Cultural Centre.

The celebration was honoured by the presence of senior members of the HCB Company, who were invited by the school to take part in the festivities. A key highlight of the event was the Njingiritana Children's Festival, which brought vibrancy and energy to the celebration with its child-focused activities.

This year's celebration was particularly significant, as it coincided with the Day of the African Child and the 50th anniversary of the Hidroeléctrica of Cahora Bassa Dam, making it a truly historic occasion.

The event brought together students from Grades 1 to 6 of EHCB, as well as children from various public schools across the village of Songo, in a shared space of learning, fun, and cultural appreciation.

The main goals of the event were to:

Reflect on the challenges children face and advocate for the promotion and protection of their rights;

Celebrate childhood as a crucial stage of development and joy;

Raise awareness about current issues affecting children;

Promote the preservation of cultural values and traditions.

As part of the festivities, the Njingiritana Festival took centre stage, delighting the young participants with a variety of engaging activities, including performances, creative workshops, games, and recreational activities — all aimed at enriching the children's experience while reinforcing messages of rights, inclusion, and cultural pride.

The event was a resounding success, blending education, entertainment, and advocacy, and reinforcing the school's role in promoting child well-being and cultural identity within the broader community.
