Cahora Bassa, 23 June 2025 – As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, on Monday carried out an official visit to the town of Songo, where he launched the Transform Project and inaugurated the road connecting Chitima to Maroeira.

The Transform Project is a strategic initiative aimed at promoting sustainable development in the Cahora Bassa District by encouraging agricultural practices, livestock farming, and poultry production. This measure responds to the need to ensure positive social and economic impacts for local communities.

On the same day, the Head of State officially opened a 12-kilometer stretch of road between Chitima and Maroeira. The rehabilitation of this road was financed by HCB and is expected to significantly improve the movement of people and goods, reduce distances, and boost the region’s economic integration, bringing benefits to the local population and attracting new investments.

The presidential reception took place at the HCB Cultural Center, which was fully decorated for the occasion. The event featured tight security measures and broad public participation. Upon his arrival at around 2 p.m., the President was warmly welcomed by a crowd, including children from various schools and local cultural groups.

During the ceremony, President Chapo greeted those present and joined in a lively Nhau dance with children from HCB International School and other students from the town. Inside the Cultural Center, the orchestra group from HCBIS performed the National Anthem with great enthusiasm and also sang birthday congratulations to the President.

After a brief reception and refreshments, the President concluded the visit, bidding farewell to the public with words of appreciation for the warm welcome. The presidential visit marked a symbolic moment, reaffirming the commitment to local development and celebrating the history and potential of the Cahora Bassa region.
